Paul’s Interview
Name, Rank and Location please
- Bro. Paul Miller of Northfleet Lodge No. 4149 in Gravesend
Are you a member of any other units?
Yes, quite a few!
I’m a member of 4 Craft lodges:
Nore Command No.9199 (Sheerness) as Junior Deacon,
Old Rofenssians Lodge (Home of the East Kent Light Blues) No.8066 – of course! – as Junior Deacon and Charity Steward,
Horus Lodge No.3155 (a Met Craft Beer Lodge, see me for invitations!) as Almoner
I’m also in United Engineers Chapter No.3862 as PS, and Wood Green Chapter No. 2426 as Almoner. Both of these meet in Freemasons’ Hall in London.
I was also recently advanced into Invicta Mark No. 378 in Ashford.
Phew! You’re quite busy then. What’s your role on the EKLBB Committee?
I’ve recently been appointed as Communications Officer. So any emails, messages or other communications you see coming from the club are likely to be down to me.
How does your family support your Masonic activity?
My Partner, Abbie, is a freemason also. She’s a member of the Order of Women Freemasons in a number of units across East Kent in Craft, RAM and Mark and Holy Royal Arch. As far as I can tell, our rituals are closely aligned so we take every opportunity to rehearse with each other.
Why do you give your time to support the EKLBB?
Everything I do in freemasonry, every unit I joined after my mother lodge, every minute of fun I have, the root of it all is this club. It has allowed me to make so many new friends, and I have embraced visiting with relish, being of course the lifeblood of freemasonry.
I found myself on a train to Norfolk recently travelling to the installation of a friend in Kings Lynn where we saw a brand new Banksy. I am in the process of affiliating to a Lodge in Ireland. I chat regularly with Masons all over the UK and Ireland as well as Michigan, Seattle and Mexico. None of this would have been possible without the Light Blues.
I cannot recommend membership enough to anyone who is interested in broadening their understanding of our fraternity, to making new friends and above all, to having fun.
That’s why I give back.
