Battle of Britain Meeting & Tour

Our breakfast meeting held on Saturday 12th November was a big hit with the brethren who attended with excellent feedback received from the gentlemen. Being a roaming Lodge, whilst our last meeting was held in Ashford, on this occasion we had the pleasure of meeting at Folkestone Masonic Hall.

As we walked towards the Masonic Centre, the façade of this building appeared rather grand with its large Doric columns either side of the porch entrance to the building. A number of us enjoyed a selection of morning drinks in the bar area, which was a superb opportunity for us to catch up & meet new brethren before sitting down for breakfast. Whilst a little more modest than the ‘banquet’ we enjoyed in Canterbury, the food was tasty and more importantly, the laugher in the room with constant.

After breakfast we headed upstairs to the lodge room via its magnificent 11 foot tall door. As always, the meeting was brief due to the nature of the East Kent Light Blues Brothers Lodge. Its highlight was  seeing W Bro. Mark Prince invested as Director of Ceremony.

Once the Lodge was closed, Bro. Malcolm Triggs began his very insightful lecture on the Battle of Britain where I believe everyone learned something new. One of my favourite facts was how the British Ministry of Information distracted German intelligence agencies from learning that Britain was using radar to intercept bombers on night raids. It issued press releases stating that British pilots were eating lots of carrots to give them exceptional night vision!

Afterwards, the majority of those who attended the breakfast meeting headed over to the rather foggy Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne. Bro. Malcolm Triggs continued to lead the way with his interesting stories whilst giving a superb tour of the site. Some of us then had the pleasure of enjoying a hot drink and a piece of cake in the Memorial restaurant area where the chatter & laugher resumed amongst the excellent company.

It is fantastic to see how the East Kent Light Blue Brothers Lodge is now beginning to build momentum and that our brethren across the province are reporting back to their friends & Lodges that they’re having a superb time at our innovative & jolly meetings.

The alms for the meeting raised £96 which will be donated to the 2025 festival

We hope to see many of you at our next meeting on Saturday 11th March 2023.
